This position will work in our District 4, Maintenance Shop , located in Shoshone . This announcement will be used to fill the current opening in Shoshone only. If you have applied for this position previously, you must reapply under this announcement. Previous scores will not be used.
As a condition of employment with ITD, shop employees are required to furnish their own hand tools and lockable storage cabinets, all in good repair.
This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 60 days of hire.
Responsibilities :
Diagnose and repair a variety of equipment and vehicles used within the District including repair and maintaining power plants, power-trains, and all related accessory systems involved with the unit. This equipment will consist of: Highway maintenance equipment including Motorgraders, Sweepers, Excavators, Dozers, Frontend loaders, Equipment Trailers, Sanders, 10-wheel trucks, 6-wheel trucks, and a variety of light duty equipment
Diagnose, repair and maintain a variety of electrical and electronic systems used on various equipment and vehicles including computer control components, high voltage AC currents, and other electronic systems. The vehicles will consist mainly of 10-wheel and 6-wheel trucks
Diagnose, repair and maintain all types of heating and air conditioning systems used within vehicles and equipment
Manufacture and weld various equipment parts and components including, but not limited to, mechanical components for equipment (snow plow harnesses, sander parts, etc.) and other specialized parts not readily available for purchase
Mount and balance tires on vehicles and equipment including fixing tires and performs other minor repair on vehicles as a normal part of vehicle/equipment maintenance
Repair steering and suspension systems on all District vehicles. Steering and suspension systems will consist mainly of types used on heavy duty trucks
Maintain records of repairs, parts orders, and related information and documentation using word processing and spreadsheet computer programs.
Diagnose, repair and fabricate various hydraulic systems such as those attachments used on district equipment.
Minimum Qualifications :
Valid driver's license
Good knowledge of:
Safety precautions and procedures relating to mechanical equipment and repair shops;
The use, care, and disposal of hazardous automotive material and waste.
Experience:
Diagnosing and repairing gasoline and/or diesel automotive and construction type equipment;
Using mechanics' tools and related specialized equipment to perform maintenance, repair and overhaul of engines and related drive train, electrical, and hydraulic systems; preparing records and reports;
Diagnosing and repairing electronic and computer controlled motor vehicle systems;
Reading and interpreting technical service manuals.
Essential Function:
An essential function of this position is driving an ITD vehicle. Incumbents are required to successfully pass a driving record check to be considered for this position. The incumbent will not be considered for this position if the following violations have occurred within the set timeframes:
Minimum Standards:
Within the last three (3) years: 1. Leaving the scene of a personal injury accident
2. Four (4) moving violations
3. Failure to submit to a chemical test
Within the last two (2) years: 1. Three (3) moving violations
Within the last twelve (12) months:
1. Accumulation of six (6) points
2. Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
3. Two (2) moving violations

You must receive a minimum rating of 80 to pass this examination

ALCOHOL AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES TESTING PROGRAM INFORMATION
The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is required to implement an Alcohol and Controlled Substance Program to comply with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), Part 382. See Regulations and Policies at the following web
If you are selected:
A. You must undergo a controlled substance test. The results of the controlled substance test must indicate a verified negative result.
B. You must give consent to ITD to obtain alcohol and controlled substance testing information for the prior 3 years from prior employers.
After satisfying the above conditions and being formally appointed to the position, you will be subject to the following FMCSR testing requirements:
Random
Reasonable suspicion
Post accident
Follow-up
Return to duty
Please Note : Employees are responsible to understand and comply with the Idaho Transportation Department's drug and alcohol procedures.
A refusal to submit to the above testing requirements will result in ineligibility for the position due to the inability to perform the Commercial Motor Vehicle driving functions required.
